It’s back down to earth with a bump, when the holidays are over, and it’s time to get back to reality. To add insult to injury, many of us find we’re suffering from post holiday blues and bad skin. After the late nights and the exposure to sunshine many find their skin has suffered from discoloration, dryness or even redness, and is definitely feeling rather sensitive in places. Protect your skin on holiday
First of all, be kind to your skin during the holiday. Remember to always use a high sun protection factor sun cream. Most experts recommend 30+ minimum strength. Good coverage and cream will cut down on skin pigmentation and protect against ageing.
When you return it’s essential to indulge in some serious moisturising. Sarah Fuller, senior skincare specialist at BeauSynergy beauty clinic recommends using “a non-comedogenic (that's non-pore blocking) moisturiser to avoid post-holiday acne as the change in climate whilst away can cause an over production of oil.” A moisturiser that works well for problem skin is Effaclar Duo (+), which works to unblock pores and has an anti-inflammatory action that aims to help reduce the appearance blemishes and breakouts.
A change in temperatures and climate may mean you may become dehydrated. A trip in the aeroplane can also affect the moisture levels in your skin, leaving it dry, so drink plenty of water and Sarah advises using a hydrating mask too. The Skin Edit recommends La Roche-Posay’s Hydraphase mask with hyaluronic acid fragments, which soothes, intensely rehydrates and restores suppleness to all skin types.
Catch up on sleep
If your holiday meant a string of late nights, give the party scene a rest and try to catch up on some zzzs. A good night’s sleep is essential to restoring your skin’s glow.
A change in your diet’s routine may also affect your skin. Some holidays are all about indulging in the local food, so get back to good habits with plenty of fresh fruit and veg to top up on helpful vitamins.
