How to protect your acne-prone skin from UV rays all year around?

Everyone knows that UV rays aren’t good for skin and yet, we still find it hard to resist basking in its warm and bright light. However, it’s key to protect your skin all year long as UV rays don’t just pop up on sunny days. And those with acne-prone skin should be even more careful with sunshine because their skin is more sensitive than most. Senior skincare specialist at BeauSynergy Beauty Clinic, Sarah Fuller warns that it’s also worth remembering that anyone taking medical treatments for their acne must be even more cautious as some medicines increase the skin's sensitivity to light. So to help you on the way to better protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays every day, we remind you of three easy tips.

Cover up

Simply said, there is nothing better to protect your skin from UV rays than avoiding exposing it to the sun and covering up, so it’s time to invest in a hat or two and to start walking on the shady side of the street.

Use a high SPF sun cream daily

The second step to efficient skin protection is using a high SPF (minimum 30) sun cream all year around that’s tailored to your skin type. It’s hard to get out of the habit of associating SPF sun cream with lounging by the pool, but the harsh reality is that the sun affects our skin every day, so it needs to be protected, every day. And remember, sun cream needs to be re-applied regularly (we’d recommend every hour) for it to be efficient. Also, check those sell by dates as after three years some creams are no longer effective.

 Eat the right foods

You can also work on helping your skin from the inside. “A balanced diet including foods containing antioxidants and vitamins A, C and D can improve the skin's defense against UV rays,” says Sarah Fuller.
