Read on to learn how to apply your favourite La Roche-Posay skincare routine each morning and evening…

Morning routine

Step one: Cleanse

The first step in your morning routine should always be a gentle cleanser to remove impurities and sebum from the skin.  Toleriane Softening Foaming Gel  is a rinse-off gel cleanser that’s suitable for normal to combination skin and is enriched with glycerine and La Roche Posay  Thermal Spring Water. It also has a PH of 5.5 so it instantly soothes and moisturises irritated skin.

Step two: Tone

The next step in your routine should be a toner to remove any remaining makeup, tighten the pores and refresh the skin. If you have a sensitive skin type, you could use La Roche-Posay’s Thermal Spring Water for this step – a fine micro spray that soothes and hydrates the skin. Apply it with a cotton pad or simply mist over the face. For oiler and blemish-prone skin types, a toner such as  Effaclar Clarifying Lotion  can help to minimise imperfections and enlarged pores. This micro-exfoliant, astringent toner is enriched with sebo-regulating active ingredients and micro-exfoliant LHA (Lipo-Hydroxy Acid) so minimises oil and leaves the skin feeling fresh and comfortable.

Step 3: Serum

After toning the skin, your skin is prepped and ready for a serum rich in active ingredients. This is a good opportunity to address any skincare concerns you have with a targeted product such as ageing or dehydration. La Roche-Posay’s  Pure Vitamin C10 Serum  is a good all-rounder as it prevents and helps correct the appearance of ageing signs – even in sensitive skin. It also helps the skin to feel more hydrated, glowing and skin texture more even.

Step 4: Moisturiser and eye cream

No matter your skin type, moisturising the skin is essential to maintaining its health.  Toleriane Ultra Cream for Sensitive Skin  is a moisturiser for dry, ultra-sensitive, reactive and allergy-prone skin and helps to reduce sensitivity day after day. If you have very dry skin, you may need something more intense such as  Hydraphase Intense Riche, an intensive hydrating moisturiser. It contains La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water and hyaluronic acid fragments to instantly infuse moisture into the skin and help maintain hydration.

If you have dryness around the delicate eye area, you can also apply a small amount of  Hydraphase Intense Eyes. This hydrating eye cream is suitable for sensitive and dehydrated eye contours, under eye circles and eyelid puffiness.

STEP 5: Sunscreen

The final step in your morning skincare routine should always be a lightweight, broad-spectrum sunscreen. Anthelios’ award-winning  Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid SPF50+  is a very thin and easy-to-layer sunscreen that feels totally lightweight on the skin and protects it from harmful UVA and UVB rays. It’s also ultra-resistant to sweat, sand and water so can be used throughout the year – from your daily commute to your annual beach holiday.

Your evening routine

Retinol

Your evening routine should follow the same steps as the morning, beginning with a cleanser and toner to remove makeup and impurities from the skin. But the corrective treatments you apply afterwards should be slightly different.

The evening is the best time to introduce a retinol treatment such as La Roche-Posay’s  Retinol B3 Serum . It’s formulated with 0.3% Retinol and Vitamin B3 and is clinically proven to firm, fill and smooth sensitive skin. As your skin needs time to become accustomed to retinol, it’s advisable to only use it a couple of times a week at first, leaving a few days in between. You can then increase usage as your skin builds up tolerance. Follow this with your usual evening moisturiser.

Top tip for using retinol: Retinol works by accelerating the formation of new skin cells to replace the old, damaged skin. This new skin can be more sensitive and is more prone to sunburn, so it’s extremely important to add facial sunscreen to your morning routine if it’s not already part of it.

Hyaluronic acid

On the evenings when you are not applying retinol, you should use a more hydrating and soothing serum such as  Hyalu B5 . This intensely hydrating serum is formulated for de-hydrated skin that is showing signs of ageing such as loss of volume and skin elasticity with fine lines or wrinkles. It’s also clinically proven to re-plump skin and accelerate skin repair so makes the perfect pre-treatment before a moisturiser, plus it will also help to counteract any sensitivity caused by the retinol.
