The best morning skincare routine for blemish-prone skin

Finding an effective skincare regime can leave many of us feeling overwhelmed and fed up. A lack of results, coupled with the amount of products out there, is a recipe for disaster. Dermatologist Dr Tabi Leslie believes the best way to take care of blemish-prone skin is a ‘less is more’ approach when using effective products..

Why we should strip back our morning skincare routine:

Many of us believe that by using a variety of products and brands we are ‘covering all our bases’ and the products become ‘stronger’ used together. This is definitely not the case. Overloading our skin in the morning with lots of products, (before we even think about makeup!), is likely to make it worse. Using too many rich products leaves skin irritated, particularly if it is prone to blemishes and sensitivity.

Dryness, redness and peeling are also the worrying side effects of an over-complicated morning routine. Dr Leslie says that a ‘simple, clinically-proven regime is the key to success when it comes to achieving clearer looking skin.’ To avoid congesting blemish-prone skin follow our morning skincare regime which cleanses, tones and targets blemishes in the morning, all whilst hydrating your skin.

Which ingredients are best to use In our morning routine?

Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel works to reduce excess sebum and remove impurities that lead to blemishes. Sebum is essential to everybody’s skin; it reduces water loss from the skin surface and protects the skin from bacteria. An excess of sebum however, can make the skin oily, and ultimately make blemish prone skin more problematic. The Cleansing Gel tackles this issue by cleansing skin with its foaming wash, leaving skin clear and fresh, without drying it out.

Effaclar Clarifying Lotion contains only a few trustworthy ingredients, one of which is Thermal Spring Water. Thermal Spring Water is a go-to ingredient for those with sensitive blemish prone skin. It has a soothing quality, which helps manage some of the symptoms of blemish-prone skin. Thermal Spring Water is infused with trace elements and silicates, this helps to create a mineral composition that may reduce itchiness and blemishes.

The Clarifying Lotion is a great addition to your morning skincare regime if you have blemish-prone skin as it unblocks and reduces the size of pores. The special ingredient it uses are LHA’s, or to give it its full name, Lipo-Hydroxy Acid. LHA’s are similar to salicylic acid, but are thought to be even more effective. The acids decrease the concentration of bacteria within pores and exfoliate skin. Recent studies suggest that LHA’s are also anti-inflammatory.

Effaclar Duo [+} uses a number of blemish-busting ingredients, which are gentle enough for use with your morning skincare regime. Despite the strength of the cream it is non-comedogenic, which means it is formulated so as not to cause blocked pores. This is important for those with sensitive, blemish-prone skin as comedogenic products often cause blackheads. Implementing non-comedogenic products into your morning skincare regime will help to break down excess oils.

Effaclar Duo [+] Anti Blemish Cream is perfect for targeting blemishes. It not only unclogs pores and reduces the appearance of blemishes; it also combats shine and helps skin texture to look refined. Red and brown marks can be reduced to achieve smooth skin texture and clear skin. The cream is a great base for makeup, so a perfect way to round off your morning skincare routine!
